The Project Technology Training for Women Radio Communicators has enterred its sixth year of implementation. The impact has been significant. 29 women in underserved regions of the country and their communities have been benefited by the project that provides computers, free software and broadband internet access to women radio communicators.

These women are called cyberelas, "the cinderellas of the cyber". In 15 of these communities, we have built telecenters, community cyber cafes, that are benefitting the whole community. The telecenters offer training courses and free access to the internet. Our monitor indicators show that telecenters are impacting the communities where they have been implanted. New small businesses have been created as well as new jobs as a consequence of the services provided by the telecenters.

Besides that in 5 of these telecenters, CEMINA found partners that donated a professional printer allowing the telecenters to offer printing services. The income is contributing for their sustainability.

Nelma Pereira (picture below) is one of the entrepreneurs of the Cyberelas Communication Center of Avante Lençois (Bahia), Lençóis is a municipality located in the interior of Bahia State. Avante, the organization headed by Nelma, offers programs for youth development. The focus of the work is communication, these young people learn to work in teams, they feel very proud of being able to produce brochures and other printing products for the local market. According to Nelma: "the printing services are offering a very interesting opportunity for the young people to interact and learn new skills such as marketing, design and sales. We feel very happy with the outcomes as people feel empowered by what they learn and can do. At Avante we also feel that we are able to address economic, technological and social sustainability."

Also check out a picture of a meeting of cyberelas (see below)
Attachments:

Picture of Nelma

Picture of a meeting of cyberelas
